ANU Za Kabuki Visual Identity & Website

ANU Za Kabuki Club is a student organisation at ANU, and they perform stylised Japanese classical theatre every year. I collaborated with the club executives to promote the club by polishing its old visual identity and building a new website.

Visual Identity Refinement

The Koi Carp fish a symbolic creature which often appears in Japanese traditional paintings and theatre plays. It has been the motif of the club’s old logo, which was designed in 1999. Due to its long history and cultural implication, I kept it as the main motif, and polished its shape in details, making it more concise and clear.

Inspired by the red lanterns hanged on traditional kabuki theatre buildings in Japan, I designed the ‘red curtain’ as a basic branding pattern. I also created a few masks showing some typical make-ups of different kabuki characters.

Website

Our target audience of the website are mainly event organisers who might potentially invite the club to give visits and trips, as well as people who might be interested at joining the club or going to our annual performances. So I made a concise static site to showcase our performances and trips, as well as the information of recent events.
